Coaches Blog: Coach Quinn

On behalf of San Diego Soccer Club, the Directors, the coaching staff, our administrative staff, and our Board of Directors we hope that all of you are safe, healthy, and AT HOME!

Keep listening to the guidelines from the Center of Disease Control and our local community health leaders and the timeline to return to play will be sooner rather than later.

Following up on last week’s blog, I recommend that all of our players take the time to access the Rise Elite Soccer App as it has many great individual exercises that you can practice on your own – in the backyard, inside your home or outside on the street. What I would like you to do is, as your coaches have advised, record your training program and challenge yourself to improve each time you train on a certain exercise. For example, if you juggle to 10, then try and beat that the next time. If you do 20 repetitions of an exercise in a minute, try to get 22 the next time. Every time you are practicing touching the ball you will continue to develop your touch, balance, coordination, and technical ability which will lead you to become more proficient at the skills necessary to reach your potential.

If you can videotape your skill session please send to us at socialmedia@sandiegosoccerclub.org so that we can upload to our club Instagram or Facebook.

I also want to remind you to utilize our Player Tools on our website because it is becoming a fantastic resource for exercises to help you improve both physically and technically, and we will continue to update it with new content as we move along into late April/May. If you need the password, contact your manager, coach or Rec Director.

Many of our talented coaches have put together training plans, Zoom sessions, physical workouts and have been available to meet with their team when needed. Please feel free to reach out to our coaches or staff if you have a question or concerns and we will do our best to provide guidance or advice as best we can.

With schools ramping up again it is going to be important for our families to find a routine that fits in with all of the challenges we face. Make our training sessions part of that routine. Have a skills development day. Have a long distance run day with sprints at the end. Have a strength and conditioning day. Have a highlight video day to watch the current greats, the former greats or the recommended shows on Netflix or Amazon. Soccer has an amazing amount of online content at all levels that players can access and learn from. Our coaches have also provided recommendations for books/videos on our ‘Player Tools’ page.

On a personal note it has been an incredibly stressful time for many people in our community and as we all continue to navigate through this crisis my advice is listen to the experts, follow their advice and remember all of us at San Diego Soccer Club are here to provide support to you and your family. We are YOUR community.

In closing, I want to thank our coaches for taking the initiative and being available to our players and I want our players to continue to be engaged by sharing their videos, challenges and individual updates every single day.
