Welcome SDSC's New College Coordinator, Joe Tedesco!

San Diego Soccer Club team is thrilled to welcome Joe Tedesco as our new college coordinator. Joe will be working very closely with our older players to guide them step-by-step through the college recruiting process.

Director of Coaching Peter Stogsdill has this to say about Joe joining SDSC:

“We are excited to have Joe Tedesco coming back to our club as our new college coordinator. Joe coached at SDSC when we first merged back in 2010-11 while he was coaching at SDSU. Joe has been coaching college soccer all over the country at various levels so he will be able to give our players great feedback and guide them to schools that would be best suited for them to play soccer at the next level as well as give feedback to players on the parts of their game they need to improve to make them more college ready players. He still has many connections at schools all over the country and that will prove invaluable when trying to make connections for players.”

We asked Joe a few questions about himself and his new role to help get to know him…

SDSC: What will your role be for SDSC and what are you looking forward to?

Joe: My new role with SDSC will be the college recruiting coordinator where I will help guide and advise the players in the club through the college recruiting process to play college soccer. I will also be coaching a variety of teams this fall when coaches have conflicts.

SDSC: What is your history with soccer?

Joe: I grew up in New York where I played club soccer for former San Diego Sockers coach Johan Aarnio. After college, I coached for a variety of clubs here in San Diego as well as for Point Loma Nazarene University and San Diego State University before moving to the East Coast. I lived in Virginia and Georgia for the past seven years where I was the coaching staffs of Old Dominion and Georgia State Universities as well as the Virginia Rush, Atlanta Fire United and Tophat Soccer Clubs.

SDSC: What unique qualities do you offer our players and what can they come to you for?

Joe: I can help our players here at SDSC through the college recruiting process and use my wide range of contacts and experiences to provide guidance specific to their individual situations.

SDSC: What is one of your best/favorite soccer memories?

Joe: One of my favorite soccer memories was earning the UEFA "A" Coaching License in Belfast, Northern Ireland. I was part of a small group of coaches that included former Liverpool player Mike Marsh who at the time was the Assistant Manager for Liverpool and Manchester United player Keith Gillepsie. I also have great memories of winning the Davis Showcase with my last San Diego SC team in 2011. That team was Captained by Ashley Hauke who went on to star for San Diego State University and included several others who went on to play in college.

SDSC: You mentioned about that you just moved back to San Diego... What brought you back here and what are you enjoying about San Diego so far?

Joe: I am excited to return to the club and to San Diego. SDSC has outstanding leadership and has assembled an incredible coaching staff that is one of the very best in youth soccer in the United States. When you look through the staff and see so many former professional players, college players, college coaches, ODP coaches, and high level coaching licenses, you know that this a great club to be in. Great coaches develop great players and I look forward to helping these players on to play at the college level.

We are thrilled to have Joe on the SDSC team!
